“More Turmoil in Private Practice"
was held on
15th November 2006
at The King's Fund
A meeting was held at the Kings Fund on 15th November 2006 to discuss various changes in private practice.
The LCA General meeting reviewed a number of topics. Mr. Geoffrey Glazer, Chairman of the LCA and Mr. Christopher Khoo, Chairman of the HCSA Private Practice Committee discussed the background to managed care initiatives being introduced by BUPA. The present status of the initiatives by BUPA and PPP were reviewed.
Dr. Sherry Williams introduced the FIPO response to the CMO’s consultation document and reviewed a number of the relevant points of interest to the independent sector. Mr. Ray Stanbridge presented a market overview of the private sector noting that consultant income and share of the market was falling. Whilst there were increasing downward pressures on consultants and their fees there were also opportunities for practice expansion in particular by working through professional group arrangements.
The audience generally appreciated the complex and sometimes worrying changes in insurance strategy, regulation and commercial changes.
