BUPA Insurance has announced a number of Initiatives, which will involve tendering for clinical services, and this aspect of their plan has begun with a MRI tender. Certain London based hospitals have been excluded from this tender. The situation here is now fluid and it is the hope of the LCA that these matters can be resolved as patients may well be inconvenienced. Other aspects of the BUPA Insurance Initiatives include a new Schedule of Procedures, a new re-registration contract for consultants and the promise of more interference into clinical care by BUPA Insurance with the introduction of detailed Clinical Care plans developed by an American company called Millimans. The London Consultants’ Association is unhappy about these manoeuvres and supports FIPO in its approach to these issues.
